Pace The Future Phase
• American Photographer Mark Fisher •
Pennsylvania RR T-1 locomotive Cinderella
An Engine Used For Speed,
Originally Tested At Eighty MPH,
Two Prototypes Were Built And Ran The Rails
In 1942, To Pull Loads On The System,
With Passenger Cars, As A Fast Travel Machine.
The Order Was Placed For Fifty Which Were Produced,
In 1945 And 46, When They Used The Recorded
Speed 80 To 130 MPH, As Fast As 142 MPH.
This Caused Many Problems For A Reasonable Useage.
The Train Were Damaged From Excessive Speed.
They Wore Out Quickly, Because Of Scheduling.
The Valve System Collapsed During The Run.
The Wheels Slipped On The Tracks.
There Was A Second Power Plant With Crew
To Cover The Issue.
Coal Burning Trains Were Coming To An End.
By 1956 The Fleet Was Replaced With Diesel
Powered Engines, Which Could Run Economically.
Aircraft Transportation Became Cheaper And More Reliable.
Which Basically Doomed The Rail Transportation.
Automobile Engines Were Improved In The Late 1950's,
Roads And State Highway Were Developed To Make ,
Driving Another Option.
The Locomotives Burning Fossil Fuel,
That Were Left Were Cut Up Or Made Into
Public Park Items. Although, There Are Some Still Running,
Today For Tourist Attractions.
No T-1 Was Saved, The Fastest Train Has No Example
In The Train Collections,
Just In Photographs And Illustrations.
Over And Out.
